As editor of JCN, I am amazed at how God prepared me to do this job! Although I never imagined myself editing a professional nursing journal, looking back I see that God used a myriad of experiences to shape me into His editor. I am passionate about nursing and love to write and think critically. My experience as a staff nurse, past and present, gives me an understanding of what it takes to be a real nurse. My experience as a nurse manager, administrator, and leader in professional organizations taught me leadership. My education gave me a love for thinking, a passion for excellence, and taught me 3 critical "R’s" for editing: reading, writing and research. Of course, God is the Senior Editor, but I get to be his first assistant in the task of creating a journal that helps nurses and students practice nursing from a biblically-based, Christian perspective.
My heart for JCN is that we encourage you in the ministry of nursing, helping you think Christianly about what you do. Colossians 2:6-10 summarizes how I pray JCN helps you grow and be strengthened spiritually, discerning biblical truth from worldly wisdom, realizing the authority you have in Christ as his Christian nurse:
So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world, rather than on Christ. For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is he head over every power and authority.
In case you're wondering... I have been the editor of JCN since March 1, 2004. My primary job with Nurses Christian Fellowship is JCN, however I also help with encouraging NCF ministry in the region, work with students at Wichita State University, and speak at conferences. I live in Wichita, Kansas and work from my home, communicating with nurses all over the world through wireless internet and digital telephone. I also work 1-3 days a week as a staff nurse in behavioral health.
Other tidbits... I am married, have three teenage children, and live with a menagerie of animals. Bible study is my lifeline; I participate in a weekly, in-depth study that offers accountability and guidance into the Word of God. I help with children's Sunday School at my church and lead what we call the S.W.A.T. team for our church youth, where I help create Souped-up Wild Adrenalin Times.
I hope you feel free to contact me and tell me what you want and need in JCN. Let me know how we can serve and help you in your nursing practice. And, pray for us at JCN in this crucial ministry as we labor together for God's Kingdom.
Ephesians 3:14-21,
Kathy
